Good News and Bad News for Pregnancy

First the bad news....

Don't take Tylenol while Pregnant...

Asthma Link
Fit Pregnancy, Nov/Dec 2008
Children whose moms took acetaminophen (Tylenol) during pregnancy are 70 percent more likely to exhibit wheezing, according to a study of U.S. Children in the inner city, a location that already puts them at risk for asthma. Taking the pain reliever in the third trimester seems riskiest. Acetaminophen may destroy an antioxidant that helps prevent lung damage.

American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Meeting

Now for the Good News...

This was in Fit Pregnancy Oct/Nov 2008.

Pregnant Chocolate Lovers, Take Heart
Eating well during pregnancy needn't mean giving up your favorite candy. A Yale study found that expectant moms who ate chocolate for or more times a week had a lower risk of preeclampsia than those who ate it less than once a week. Dark chocolate, in particular, contains a substance thought to have cardiovascular benefits that help prevent pereclampsia.
~S.R. Epidemiology

As a side note I have had anemia issues this pregnancy and have found DARK chocolate is high in iron. There's even one at Aldi's that has 15% iron for the day. Just make sure you read the label. Some are as low as 6% and some as high as 15%.

More Christmas Projects...

The monkey is 99.99% done. He's just missing a mouth. Sorry the photos so light. I needed to adjust the lighting but the mosquitos were comacozzy diving me and the toddler. And I wanted out! Here's his pattern.

I love love love this little guy. He is a Greek Tortoise. Isn't he adorable!!! Here's his pattern.

Next a marble bag... Although I'm not making it to hold marbles... You'lle have to wait and see what will hide inside. :) Here's the pattern.  And here's instructions how to make the cool cord. It's called a monk cord. Learn something new every day.

Here's a teddy bear. He was supposed to be a pirate. But I wanted him to have the option of 2 eyes. May make the patch to play with though.

And a better picture of the 12 pt. ball. Pattern is linked on another post.

Christmas is Coming...

Ok ok not really. But I'm having a baby at the beginning of December so if I'm going to make homemade it has to happen now.  Here is my progress so far.

This monkey is 100% done with the crocheting. But he's waiting for a trip to town to get him some eyes, floss for a mouth and those beads that help weight him.

This is a cool toy for the new baby. It will be a ball with 12 points.

Learning to Knit

My dd and I had some friends of hers come over and give us knitting lessons.

Just learning. The yellow block is mine and the white is dd 18s.
And yes I know that I dropped 2 stitches.

We had 2 girls teaching us. Unfortunately this is as far as they can take us. And they didn’t know how to pick up a dropped stitch. So I will look for online tutorial. But it was sooooo helpful to have someone right their saying no your doing it wrong. Her like this…. :)

Girly Daisy Hat

When I saw this pattern I just had to make this hat. Only time will tell weither it will be a really nice present for someone else. Or cover a wee girly head of mine.
I don't adore the booties they are a little more boxy than I like. But they look pretty good finished. 1/2 to go and then I am done. Don't plan to make the sweater. I already have that lovely chocolate brown one.
Yes it is on a watermelon. A mini one... Didn't have anything else nice and round to put it on.

I will be lining the bonnet with flannel since I am having a December baby.

I'll get a better picture when both are done.

The pattern is...

New Pillows for the Living Room

Start of Pillows done. Have to wait until I can go to town and get more stuffing...

The above pillow is some of the nice fabric I got from down the streets upholstery thrift! It has a dark purple edge but it is hard to see in the photo. Plus a vintage button I had. grinn I plan to make 2 more of these big pillows. Plus 2 to 4 little pillows for the black couch. (It's not made as well and is uncomfortable. )

The middle fabric I saved from my old pillows. (It's the fabric of my curtains) and combined the new fabric plus purple. My favorite color. grinn
Total Cost so far $7.00.
